Breakdown
(May 6th, 2000)
Washington, DC
The party that started it all for D Tribe Productions. This party
set itself apart from the rest from the very beginning. With the
fliers being less computerized and going a bit more retro with
a “cartoony” kind of feel, to the lineup being all
local and the decorations capturing not only everyone’s
eyes but breathe as well, Breakdown was a riveting experience
from head to toe. Months of meticulous planning and reinterpretation
helped to create the right mood for this party. Not only was this
the first party strictly focused on funky House and Breaks in
DC, but it also put together most of the top local DJs on the
same lineup. Each DJ was carefully chosen to help produce the
amazing vibe that the Tribe was aiming for and achieved.
With DJ Spice, DJ Who, and East Coast Boogiemen headlining this
event, along with Tom B, Lexus King, Ty T, Galaxy Girl, Splitt
vs. Cary B, Frank Anthone, JKrown & MC K, and Jay Clue, this
event was nothing short of spectacular. The sound and atmosphere
at this event was definitely what D Tribe had set as one of their
goals for the night. As D Tribe had hoped, the DJs were pumpin'
out funky beats all night while the crowd danced their shell-tops
off and went crazy with love for the music.
Due to the excellent turnout and such a great vibe, this event
was extended an extra hour and half, ‘till 7:30a.m.!! The
East Coast Boogiemen closed the event out, leaving everyone drenched
in soul. The sun had risen, yet no one wanted to leave. Breakdown
gained massive support from DC, which surprised most area promoters,
who were certain of this event's failure. Just goes to show, stay
true to what you believe in, keep it real, and you'll come out
on top! This event was a huge stepping stone for D Tribe. Breakdown
had allowed D Tribe to share their ideas and visions of what a
party should be, focusing on the music, vibe and love for House
and Breaks.
